MB 250 GD „Wolf”

German rough terrain personal carrier developed in the 70s to replace the DKW Munga. Unfortunately for Mercedes-Benz, the order for universal off-road vehicle with a load capacity of 0.5 t and 4×4 system for the Bundeswehr received rival, Volkswagen with its model Iltis.

Then it was decided that the new Mercedes-Benz vehicle will arrive on the civilian market. Quickly 250 GD found other customers – the future „Wolf” attracted several NATO armies, including France, Denmark, Greece and the Netherlands. Finally, the user, for which order the vehicle was developed the Bundeswehr introduced MB „G-Klasse” (from Geländewagen – terrain vehicle).

This happened in 1989. Today it is a standard, off-road military vehicle in several countries. Also, the Polish Army has such vehicles. 150 of them aree used in the two armored cavalry brigades armed with tanks Leopard 2A4 and 2A5, in Świętoszów and Sagań.
