STAR 266 is the basic off-road truck with average capacity of the Polish Army since the 70s. Mass produced in Factory Truck „STAR” from Starachowice continued in 1973-2000. Replaced in the production of STAR trucks family of 66 – 660.
In the course of many years of operation proved to be very successful vehicle used in a number of versions, from the typical truck with transmission, the body closed, special (radios, mobile workshops, Command and ordnance, field stations, battery charging, radio listening, vehicles operating airports), to the tankers, excavators, cranes. STAR 266 is also part of the self-propelled antiaircraft artillery set Hibernyt (mounted on a truck gun ZU-23-2).
The described vehicle also won recognition abroad. They exported a total of 4659 units to the Soviet Union, Hungary, Angola, Yemen, Libya and Burma.
Currently (2015). Polish Army still uses about 13 000 trucks STAR 266 all versions. A copy of our collection was produced in 1978 and comes from Army Unit 3775, or 34 Battalion of Radioengineering Chojnice.
