To the collection of MTW „Gryf” joined an armored personnel carrier. It is a replica of a German infantry transporter Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D built on the Czechoslovakian Tatra transporter OT-810. The vehicle was completely rebuilt, particularly the rear part of the side walls and the top and interior.
Subsequent modifications and repairs will be made in the workshops MTW „Gryf” in order to increase the similarity to the original. Transporters Tatra OT-810 were produced after the end of II World War for the army of Czechoslovakia on the basis of the German transporter Sd.Kfz. 251.
SdKfz 251 was constructed in 1936. Its construction was used chassis of 3-ton artillery tractor SdKfz 11. Transporter has been built since 1939. The resulting four variants of production, marked Ausf. A, B, C and D, different structural elements of the hull, the arrangement of the observation and firing openings.
The last variant – Ausf. D – had numerous simplifications of the construction, among others: simple rear panel of the fuselage. Produced approx. 4 650 vehicles versions A-C, 10 602 Ausf D. Production took place in factories: Hanomag, MNH, Fr. Schichau (Elblag), Wumag, Wasserhütte, Borgward, Evans + Pistor, Deutsche Werke, Büssing-NAG.
It was a very successful armored infantry carrier. Massively used in campaigns 1939-1941 has become an integral part of the Blitzkrieg. Thanks to the German motorized infantry troops overcame considerable distances in a surprisingly short time.
At the end of the war due to very low production of tanks III Reich began rearm SdKfz 251 with more and heavier weapons such anti-tank gun. In this way was formed on the basis of Sd.Kfz 251 tank destroyers such as Sd.Kfz 251 Ausf. D / 22 equipped with anti-tank gun PaK 40.
